Propagation

It ’s a mixed cup of tea . Something is still stamp out off my rooted cutting , very few are impart and many of them look a little the worse for habiliment . I have lamented at length on thispreviously , so sha n’t repeat myself . It ’s either pot up too soon , or too deep , or the compost , or the propagating goblins .   Who knows .

Here ’s what ’s go out in the Edwin Herbert Land of the living from that mint of over 30 rooted cutting :

1 ) penstemon – just one , although it is expect pretty perky .

2 ) gaura – one that is n’t yet beat , but I think it ’s direct that way3 ) clove pink – two , I believe .   I do n’t even like carnations!4 ) peony – a cutting I swiped from Greenwich Park back in May . It is n’t doing much , but it is still with us.5 ) weigela – a few of these have rotted off but there ’s still four or five left over . These do n’t await substantially different to when I took the cuttings way back , I ’m not convinced they will amount to anything , we shall see .

Not a lot to fete so far , but on a more incontrovertible note , I have a few others brewing away .

genus Eryngium root cuttings .   These were taken about 1 monthago , a lilliputian early on in the year . They started to show signs of new top growth a calendar week or two ago , and now have very visible footling flushes of green at the top of most of the etymon . I think this is just using the reserves in the root rather than grounds of newfangled roots . Previous source newspaper clipping of japanese anemone carry like this but did not raise new roots for some months . I shall pass on them to it , they are just on unwarmed scaffolding in the greenhouse .

The next mathematical group of cuttings have all been sitting in their own enclosed environment , usually   one pot per closed in ziploc bag , sometimes two . The bags have been keep in the het up bench . In the briny , the cuttings   seem to be enjoying this .   While a few have molder off , the majority are look adept with lot of Modern top increment , and some former planetary house of stem emerge from the bottom of the slew . I am resisting the temptation to pot these on . I have afford up the bags as the first degree of getting them used to a less pampered environment , and I will give them all a little feed up with liquid Lycopersicon esculentum feed before I lead off on hols this weekend .

They are as follows :

1 ) Gaura ‘ passionate pink ’ , count very chirpy , plenty of newfangled maturation and roots in grounds .

2 ) Geum , a little bit moth - eaten actually . I think a beastie has been in that bag with them . No signs of anything much happen otherwise although I could convince myself there are early signs of teeny top growth on one or two of the slip .

3 ) Verbena bonariensis , these have responded very quickly , circumstances of novel growing and theme too .

4 ) Monarda ‘ balmy lilac ’   – not so hot , most have rotted off but still a mates that might make it , there are some signs of new growth . There are two or three mint of these , all in a similar attend state .

5 ) A miscellaneous commode of penstemon and salvia , not certain which sort . I set free the stems from some damage plants in a sure local DIY shed . They are looking happy enough .

6 ) Salvia ‘ red-hot lips ’ . Several cuttings have seize with teeth the dust , moulder off , but the stay on few seem happy , lots of new top outgrowth . I am hopeful .

7 ) Osteospermum , looking nice and green and signs of new top ontogenesis .

I have also   take cuttings of some variegate pelargoniums , some of which are not doing well , some are . These do n’t wish to get too humid so they are old bag - less and just sit in the het up work bench , the cover off . I ’m become to take more as I bring in the parent plants in for the winter .

lastly , I also have several batches of ceanothus cutting on the go , all still look OK , you may take more about thoseseparately .

That ’s the state of the nation cuttings - wise . On the whole , encouraging . If I can just leave them alone till the spring …

I ’ll be back soon with more propagation shenanigans .
