A stylish garden plays with different moods
Today ’s Garden Photos of the Day come from Ruth Oliver Jolliffe in Mattapoisett , Mass.
This garden is all about blank , full-strength logical argument to create a beautiful , elegant space but then pushing against that inflexibility with points of color , whimsy , and ease .
The corner of the checker board terrace , made with a beautiful combination of dissimilar Harlan Fiske Stone , and showing the border beyond in full outpouring color .

Another vista of the checkerboard . What a cool paving musical theme ! Using the contrast pattern of stones make a fortune of interest , and the strict formalism of the square checker board is infract up by the small square bottom of looser industrial plant set into it . The border beyond is now protected by a fencing to keep the rabbits out .
A scene down the steps from the deck , with color bring in from the bright painted walls and a preeminence on ease from the flora that produce between the steps .
Sunset as seen from the pack of cards . What an unbelievable view !

The view up to the house , looking over a long , rectangular pond set into the lawn . An tremendous , brightly painted death chair brings whimsy and color to the panorama .
Another view of the gargantuan , purple - and - yellow chair .
