The bee love native Frostweed ( Verbesina virginica ) . I planted it , too , because I was told its flower are one of the few White person that attract butterfly .

But get this , the primrose jasmine is also on a curlicue , like the Bradford pears and redbuds that have agitate up the calendar .

I ’ve been planting like a fiend , since any rain will stick around in the soil a bit longer . ( And give thanks you for Tuesday ’s blessing to souse in the newbies ) . New plants do n’t punk out so tight when it ’s not 105 ° , either .

Daphne ’s filling of the week is snapdragons , a favorite for children to snap their “ dragon ”   mouths .

But they ’re also favour by gardener for cool - weather color . When I took pictures atShoal Creek Nursery , the bee cue me that it was a wintertime ambrosia source for them , too . So , last weekend , I catch some dwarf yellow for the front walkway .

I picked taller , spicy ‘ Crimson Sonnet ’ for the French pancake bed . I do n’t like to plant them until we ’re not seeing too many days of in high spirits 80 ’s . Now ’s the perfect clock time to tote up some snap to your garden !

Boy howdy , I ’ve been moving plants around . This week , Daphne answers Ramona Rogahn ’s majuscule question : when to move a pink wine ?

This past summer and red-hot fall , our nurturing instinct prompted us to want to move accented or poorly place plants to less anxious speckle . But , as Daphne explains , raging weather – especially when a plant is stressed – is the worst time to move them . alternatively , wait until nerveless weather and the plants are dormant to make your motion .

In these wry times , be certain to irrigate the industrial plant and its new emplacement several years in procession . drudge your new hole . You may need to make adjustments , but get the hard dig out of the way . It ’s also well to take a shovel around your plant a calendar month or even two months before you move it . This will sever some roots and encourage new top ones to grow to avail it establish more quickly in its unexampled positioning . If you ca n’t do that ( and aboveboard , I ’m never that fix ! ) , be sure to grope for around and get as much of the root ball as you may . damp soil really aid for the digging , and to have the plant well hydrate to cut back a lusus naturae out moment . Do not fecundate your new transplants . I give them water , liquid seaweed , and mulch .

Well , chippy weather is on the way , which meansbasil is about to say farewell . Perennials like Mexican heap marigold will brown to the undercoat in the first freeze . This workweek , we repeat Trisha Shirey’stips for save and dry herbsto keep the herbal handshake all winter . And how cool would it be to for the child in your lifespan to make holiday oil color , vinegar and cat treats from the garden ?

On tour , we maneuver to the Casis Elementary veg garden , where teachers , parents , and educatee join forces in an organic vegetable garden for hands - on lessons in sustainability , math , science , graphics , and plain good eating !

Until next week , Linda
