Science ! Science ! Science !
I just finished readingCarol Deppe’sThe Resilient Gardenerand she ’s a full expert on traditional corn whiskey varieties . We ’d advantageously start saving and grow them in place plot before they ’re completely destruct by GMO monstrosities .

It ’s sad to avoid sand , corn flakes , tortilla chips , etc … but that ’s really our only choice unless we raise our own – or can prove the corn in our preferent products is n’t GMO .
Sick .
UPDATE 2015:
Thus far , I ’ve grown Hickory King , Tex Cuban , Floriani and Heirloom blue corn in my psychometric test game . The Hickory King and the Tex Cuban both do quite well in Florida . If you ’re not addicted to RoundUp , I recommend grow these Graeco-Roman heirloom dent corn varieties organically and thenmaking your own grits , corn meal , etc . and stay put by from Frankencorn .
The dent corn whisky take quite a long time of year to produce , but they also produce a draw of biomass foryour compost pileor silage for your fauna .
Avoiding hybridization contamination is n’t easy , however ; Zea mays is wind - pollinate . If you have a neighbor growing another multifariousness – likely a GMO corn variety – the pollen can get into your garden as well . Keep your eyes open .
When you turn your own corn , you grow something beautiful and save the genetic science of preceding Americans operate long ago on lemon yellow and bringing it forward into the staple crop it is today . Somewhere we lose the plot and jump into the research laboratory and left the past behind – and that ’s a big loss for everyone .
