A floral fantasy represents the very real need to welcome wildlife into our landscapes and gardens
Hi GPODers !
Last hebdomad I partake the first in a serial publication of posts about the 2025Philadelphia Flower Showthat I attend this twelvemonth withFine garden . If you miss that , be certain to check it out to get more information on this incredible one-year gathering of blossom and garden enthusiasts : Philadelphia Flower Show Entry Display . As I mentioned in that place , there is no way I can brood every exhibit and show I saw during my visit but I could n’t help sharing some of my high spot . One of those highlights was undeniably the incredible ( and award - winning ! ) display created by Jennifer Reed and her squad atJennifer Designs , a floral intention company base in Mullica Hill , New Jersey .
Before I had get in in the “ City of Brotherly Love , ” I had already heard bombilation about their display titled : Welcoming Wildlife Home . Even my non - gardening friends who survive in the surface area and pay heed the show told me it was a “ must - see . ” So when I did arrive , I was not surprised to find that this exhibit hadwon several awardsin the ‘ flowered ’ family , including but not limit to : the Society of American Florists Flower Show Award , Gardening for the Greater Good Award , a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Metal , and Best in Show . This whimsical and fantastical show was a admiration to lay eyes on and dead captured the attending of everyone who fascinate a glimpse , but managed to do all of this while introduce and stand for a very important and meaningful suit . Here is the description that accompanied the exhibit :

“ Welcoming Wildlife Homeshowcases the essential theatrical role of wildlife in maintaining a healthy , thriving ecosystem ground in biodiversity . A welcoming home symbolizes human interaction with nature , while beyond the windows , the garden descend to life with a rich tapestry of plants . This immersive exhibit highlights how attentive plant selection and home ground creation support the intricate balance wheel of wildlife . ”
Alice in Wonderlandgets a sustainability rebrand ! There is no excited Hatter or March Hare at this tea party , but a bee , butterfly , polo-neck , frog , squirrel , and robin all carefully craft with an intricate melding of industrial plant material , blooms , and plumes sit down around a table with a floral centrepiece that would put the most luxuriant wedding party centerpieces to shame .
One of my personal favorite features of the display was the monolithic nerveless - tone arrangement that hung above the pendant . The many soft , fluffy texture of the plant chosen for this detail really lean to the whimsical but naturalistic feeling in the design . It also contrasted nicely with many of the brighter , bolder colour and forms that were found in the tabular array arrangement and some of the wondrous wildlife sculptures .

The near shot I could get of one of the amazing floral sculptures , an unbelievably elaborate monarch butterfly .
The other half of the pollinator representation at the tabular array was this adorable bumblebee made of an miscellany of gorgeous yellow blooms and aeriform twig “ wings . ” There was so much to take in on this exhibit that it was n’t until I looked back at this picture that I noticed the USA of ants marching in to bring together the festivities !
Another feature of the design that I really loved was the manipulation of cosmetic grass plumes to make an accurately downlike squirrel tail . It might seem like an obvious choice , but it takes an creative person to bring that thought to life and execute in such a lovely style .

Just “ outside ” that tremendous tablescape are garden bottom full of colorful flowers that are thickly planted to serve as habitat for wildlife . As many garden featured onGarden Photo of the Dayhave proven , there is no need to give stunner and interest when build up beds that gain of our ecosystem .
Aside from the nerveless pollinator firm — that are very stylish in their own right — the medium garden guest would have no idea that this plantings was contrive with wildlife in intellect . A mix of colouration , texture , and plant types are meander together in a charming and classically beautiful way , yet each plant choice was also made with consideration to its beneficial impact .
in conclusion , the faux house frontal that anchored the two unlike vista of this design , and , I opine , play the thin caul between our home base and the keen ecosystem . While so often considered the freestanding worlds of “ indoors ” and “ outdoors , ” the realism is our family is one we share with the wildlife and nature that we sometimes work severely to control or keep out . Rather than work to build heavy barriers , we can actually produce more beauty by interacting with nature and suffer the wildlife our garden attract . But if we just want to talk practicality , the eruption of gorgeous efflorescence out of the open window physical body are instigate designs worthy of their own fanfare !
