A flower hobby alongside a vegetable job
Today ’s photograph come from Hannah Miller .
Hi GPOD people ! I am an constitutive vegetable granger alongside my husband and four kids in southeastern Minnesota , near Rochester . My mania is my blossom layer near our home , which we build four year ago from a total blank slate when it descend to landscape gardening . I love to startperennials from seedto bring through money , and I also start lots ofannualseach year for uninterrupted colouring material . Our winter are long , but the summers make up for it . Some of my new favorite annuals admit theZinnia Profusion Series , which you will see butt on many of my beds , as well as Victoria bluesalvia .
A dramatic ashen hydrangea ( Hydrangeapaniculata , Zones 3–8 ) complements some Victoria blue salvia(Salvia farinacea‘Victoria Blue ’ , Zones 8–10 or as an yearly ) .

Plantings in bright , basal color , with the backcloth of farm playing field beyond .
The low - growing zinnia from the Zinnia Profusion Series ( Zinnia×marylandica , annual ) abut this bottom are shorter and more disease tolerant than theold - fashion zinnias(Zinniaelegans , annual ) growing behind them .
Though we most often believe of heuchera as plants grow for colorful foliage , the speciesHeucherasanguinea(Zones 3–8 ) has spikes of showy bright ruby-red flowers in summertime . Here they spring the edge of the seam , back up up by a mass of magniloquent perennial blooming their heads off .

Hollyhocks(Alcearosea , Zones 2–10 ) are sure-enough - fashioned blossom that take care great in any garden . The works arebiennialor curtly - hold out perennials , but they often ego - sow year after class . They can be prone to a disease call rust , specially in humid climates , but when well-chosen they are one of the most beautiful flowers out there .
One of Hannah ’s children is dwarf by tall , efflorescence perennials .
A self-aggrandising mass of empurpled coneflowers ( Echinaceapurpurea , Zones 3–8 ) .

gentle scandalmongering Asiatic lily ( Liliumhybrid , Asiatic grouping , Zones 4–9 ) , with spike ofblazing star(Liatrisspicata , Zones 3–9 ) just coming into bloom in front .
A panorama of the garden await out onto the farmland beyond .
The nurseryman in her natural habitat .
