Rain garden at entrance to the Show
What with nose candy and some winds from hell , it was n’t a keen class for thePhiladelphia Flower Show , dependent as it is on decent weather to institute in the bunch that fund the PHS ’s manyworthy undertaking . But get ’s get to how the atmospheric condition affected ME , shall we ?
I thought I was so chic this twelvemonth to book an Amtrak drive from Baltimore to Philadelphia and back – scantily over an minute ’s tripper – rather than driving . Plus , I was serve on the preview Clarence Shepard Day Jr. ( for members and medium ) when it ’s innocent and more significantly , the crowd are low-cal enough to SEE stuff .

Rain garden at entrance to the Show
Long story little , the snow and wind force Amtrak to cancel all trains in the entire Northeast Corridor , leaving me strand for the nighttime in a strange - to - me metropolis with an unfathomable public transit system .
But somewhere in the chaos I inaugurate myself to a fellow traveller who , in addition to her other magical spell , had the good sense to book a ( very courteous ) hotel room right away , which she was willing to share with me . She also come about to know her agency around the urban center and its various caravan systems . I but bond myself to her , and made a Modern gardening friend in the bargain .
So meet my rescuer – Nancy Blois , an avid nurseryman active in theMaryland Horticulture Society . She ’s shew with our other roomy for the night , her niece Blair .

Another highlighting was similarly of the human change – meet up with a few other intrepid garden communicator . From left in this photo by Kirk Brown , they ’re Peggy Anne Montgomery , Marcia Tate , Louise Clarke , Ruth Clausen , yours in truth and Dan Benarcik . piddling did we know then what a trial it would be getting home .
But about the show , with the “ Wonders of Water ” composition this year . I was n’t too stressed to relish the show garden , above and below .
The base of water include dry gardens , too .

And water system - themed particular effects .
My favorites are usually the smaller displays , like these rooms with plant and water features . ( Above , there ’s a water rampart left of the bookcase , according to my source – Kirk Brown again . )
There must be a water feature article somewhere on this “ Zen Balcony , ” though I ca n’t find it in this shooting .

And modest still , I always enjoy the “ Pressed Plant ” rival .
And would you consider plant - and - water - themed lid , jewelry and handbag ? What a hoot .
I was connive by the exhibits about water in other countries , like India and Mexico . “ Mexico has become a bottled weewee country . ” Who cognise ?

At the endangerment of take a leak off people I have a go at it and like , and with the reservation that it ’s just one opinion , here goes .
Titled “ Spring Thaw , ” it looks hokey and bastard .

Meh .
Gratuitous color with no connection to the theme ? Another meh .
Beached old boats with a few works stuck here and there .

And my least favourite exhibit – turfgrass with a croquet exercise set and signage that read , “ Sometimes prevention is not enough and repellant becomes crucial … DEET and Picaridin ( in Avon Skin So Soft ) are both efficacious and dependable if used correctly … ” and so on . Wtf ?
Worst overall ? The stuff trade in the large retail area , almost none of which was garden - related . Also , it was surprisingly depleted - end .
