From 2006 - 2008 , we had one pumpkin sign of the zodiac and a pumpkin patch . While strategically planning for 2009 ’s Autumn at the Arboretum , President and CEO Mary Brinegar had a creative vision that we now call the ‘ Pumpkin Village . ’ 2009 was the first year our gardening staff created an entire pumpkin settlement made up of 4 pumpkin house . A funny thing about our many pumpkins is that sometimes our Arboretum squirrel friend like to get inside the pumpkins and eat up the delicious pumpkin seed ! When our staff picks up what looks to be a wiped out pumpkin vine , a furry friend will sometimes jumpstart out .
